The Wound Clinic Advanced Wound Care in Polokwane
The Wound Clinic was founded in 2008 to accommodate the growing need for post-operative and chronic wound care. This need applies to anyone with an acute or chronic wound, whether they be on private or public medical aid. Wound care services are at the clinic at 71 Burger Street. Due to ongoing training with specialists over the past decade and collaboration with product manufacturers, we constantly stay abreast of the latest information and technology in wound care. Communication and training with these parties are essential to learning more about product features, benefits, and recommendations.
The Wound Clinic’s aim is the treatment and rehabilitation of complex wounds. Advanced wound care is given by trained and experienced staff. We consult a multidisciplinary team that includes General Practitioners, Physicians, Plastic and General Surgeons, Orthopaedic Specialists, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Podiatrists, Dieticians, and Diabetic Centres.
The Wound Clinic staff are members of WHASA, the Wound Healing Association of Southern Africa, which is a multidisciplinary organization incorporating a team approach towards wound healing. In many fields, they are the primary resource for healthcare professionals to foster research and education while advancing wound management. Regular conferences are held countrywide by specialists in the wound care field. New wound management options, products, and training are also offered by various manufacturers of researched scientific wound care products.
Making a booking at the Clinic, and having a referral letter from the treating doctor is compulsory to obtain authorization for treatment from the Medical Aid. The duration and cost of an appointment will depend on the size and severity of the wound. An assessment is done at the first visit as well as determining treatment. The average length of a consultation ranges from 30 minutes to an hour, two to three times per week.
Private patients are welcome!
